Susan L. Roberts, MDiv, OTR/L
Author, Lecturer, Occupational Therapist
My "results-oriented" practice focuses on “happy” solutions for transforming behavioral issues especially picky eating. I work with all kinds of families including those with non-verbal and pre-verbal children.
After more than 20 years of experience in school-based pediatrics, as well opening and operating a play-based pediatric clinic in Tucson, Arizona, I moved to New York to take a faculty position. This led to lecturing nationally on the subjects of Handwriting, Toileting and Mealtime Success. My clinical and research interests focus on the primary occupation of childhood, PLAY, and holistic approaches for achieving optimal health and wellness. I began my career as an occupational therapist at Pine Tree Camp, an Easter Seals summer camp in Rome, Maine. From there I attended Sargent College at Boston University and moved to Tucson, Arizona, where I became interested in traditional healing rituals. Exploring the sensory aspects and neurobiology of healing rituals led me to complete a Masters in Divinity from Harvard University. A lifelong interest in cooking and eating delicious and healthy foods took me to the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York City. Along the way I taught kinesiology and pediatrics in the Occupational Therapy Department of Eastern Kentucky University in 1986 and 1987 and adult physical dysfunction, pediatrics and administration at the Occupational Therapy Department of New York Institute of Technology in 2006 and 2007. In 1983 the Arizona Occupational Therapy Association awarded me Occupational Therapist of the Year. I enjoy traveling around the US teaching parents and professionals how to have happy mealtimes full of nutritious food, and I love spending time with children and their families even more. Nothing beats the happiness of watching picky eaters become adventurous eaters, and seeing mealtimes transformed from battlegrounds to beloved family rituals. Through individual coaching, play experiences, and support groups we discover the art of raising happy children for a peaceful world. Credentials
